The practice of tithing originated in the Old Testament under Judaism and has been a long-standing tradition in the church for many centuries. However, Paul established a principle in the New Testament church that seems to align better with the churches he founded. This principle can be applied when considering making a financial contribution to Union Grove Baptist Church.

In 2 Corinthians 9: 6 – 8, Paul writes that those who sow sparingly will also reap sparingly, while those who sow bountifully will reap bountifully. He also emphasizes the importance of giving from the heart, without reluctance or compulsion, as God loves a cheerful giver.
